Andrea Bunting Biography
Dr Andrea Bunting is a sustainable energy educator, consultant and researcher currently exploring the psychology of climate change inaction.
Andrea was born in the brown coal fields of Victoria into a State Electricity Commission family, and from an early age developed an interest in energy systems.
After studying Mechanical Engineering, she worked in the oil and gas industry, and subsequently moved into engineering education. Her concern about the wastefulness and environmental damage of energy systems led her to study the institutional barriers to sustainable energy.
She undertook a doctorate in the sociology of technology at the University of Wollongong focusing on wind energy in Australia. Subsequently, she and a colleague developed the Masters of Sustainable Energy at RMIT University.
Andrea left engineering education in 2011 to study the psychological barriers to climate action. Today she spends her time as a grassroots climate activist and is involved with several climate groups. She is particularly interested in the everyday denial about the severity of climate change.
